Railway Budget 2014-15 : Highlights at a glance

Union Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda exhibited his lady Railway Budget in Parliament on Tuesday. Here are the highlights of this Budget.

  1. No new build in passenger charges and cargo charges 
  2. Bullet train in Mumbai-Ahmedabad area 
  3. Diamond quadrilateral for fast trains 
  4. Plan to trek velocity of trains to 160-200 km/hr in 9 areas 
  5. Online booking to help 7,200 tickets per minute; to permit 1.2 lakh users/clients log in all the while. 
  6. Reservation framework to be patched up, ticket-booking through cell telephones, post offices to be promoted 
  7. Online platform for unreserved tickets 
  8. Combo parking-platform tickets at stations 
  9. Women RPF Constables to escort women coaches; 4,000 ladies constables to be drafted 
  10. Retiring room office to be reached out to all stations 
  11. Battery operated cars for in an differently-abled and senior residents at major stations 
  12. Feedback benefits through IVRS on quality of food 
  13. Food could be requested through SMS, telephone; Food courts at major stations 
  14. Cleanliness budget up by 40 per cent over a year ago 
  15. Cctvs to be utilized at stations for observing cleanliness 
  16. Setting up of corpus fund for stations' upkeep; RO drinking water in a few stations and trains 
  17. Automatic door shutting in mainline and sub-urban coaches 
  18. 58 new trains and growth of 11; 864 extra Emus to be presented in Mumbai in excess of 2 years 
  19. FDI in railway projects, aside from in operations 
  20. FDI, local investments in rail infrastructure 
  21. Office-on-Wheels: Internet & workstation facilities on select trains

  29. Expenditure in 2014-15 pegged at Rs. 149,176 crore. 
  30. Gowda added 50+ news train in railway catalog that would be introduced soon. This includes 5 Jansadharaan , 5 Premium , 6 AC Express, 27 Express , 8 Passenger trains and 2 MEMU and 5 DEMU services).
